Beetroot taken from Healthy Food Team..

At first glance beets look as unattractive root, but consumers of this precious vegetable don’t need any incentive to include it in their diet. However, if you are one of those who do not like this vegetable we offer a reminder why you should start using it in your daily diet.

Helps with anemia

The first tip that every doctor will give you in case of diagnosis of iron deficiency in the blood is eating beets as often as possible.
Keep in mind that when you eat beets, either you eat it fresh as a salad, cooked or as juice, you can add some freshly squeezed lemon juice; in order to bind the iron so that the body can absorb it.

Contain lots of minerals

Beet is rich in minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron and sulfur. It also contains group B vitamins, among whit folic acid, and vitamin C, which makes beet an excellent choice for pregnant women.

Better absorption of calcium

Due to the presence of silica, beets helps for better absorption of calcium in the body, this helps to maintain the health of the bones, skin, hair and nails.

What is serotonin? What does serotonin do? Serotonin is a chemical created by the human body that works as a neurotransmitter. It is regarded by some researchers as a chemical that is responsible for maintaining mood balance, and that a deficit of serotonin leads to depression.

Fast facts on serotonin
Here are some key points about serotonin. More detail and supporting information is in the main article.
  • Serotonin is a chemical created by the human body. It works as a neurotransmitter.
  • It is commonly regarded as a chemical that is responsible for maintaining mood balance.
  • Serotonin is created by a biochemical conversion process.
  • Serotonin is manufactured in the brain and the intestines. The majority of the body's serotonin, between 80-90%, can be found in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Serotonin that is used inside the brain must be produced within it.
  • It is thought that serotonin can affect mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, memory and sexual desire and function.
  • An association has been made between depression and serotonin. Scientists remain unsure whether decreased levels of serotonin contribute to depression or depression causes a decrease in serotonin levels.
  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can affect the levels of serotonin in the body.
  • If excessive amounts of serotonin are accumulated within the body then serotonin syndrome can occur.
  • Other ways to increase body serotonin levels include mood induction, light, exercise and diet.

What is serotonin?2

Serotonin is created by a biochemical conversion process which combines tryptophan, a component of proteins, with tryptophan hydroxylase, a chemical reactor. Together, they form 5-hydroxyltryptamine (5-HT), also referred to as serotonin.
Serotonin is most commonly believed to be a neurotransmitter, although some consider the chemical to be a hormone.

Where does serotonin come from?2,3

Serotonin is manufactured in the brain and the intestines. The majority of the body's serotonin, between 80-90%, can be found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It can also be found in the blood platelets and the central nervous system (CNS).
As serotonin can be found widely across the body, it is believed that the chemical plays a role in influencing a variety of body and psychological functions.

Serotonin cannot cross the blood-brain barrier, therefore, serotonin that is used inside the brain must be produced within it.

What does serotonin do?2,3

As a neurotransmitter, serotonin relays signals between nerve cells (neurons), regulating their intensity.
Nerve cell pulse
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, regulating signals between neurons.
Serotonin is widely believed to play a key role in the central nervous system, as well as in the general functioning of the body and in particular the GI tract. Studies have found links between serotonin and bone metabolism, breast milk production, liver regeneration and cell division.
As a neurotransmitter, serotonin influences both directly and indirectly the majority of brain cells. The following is a list of things that it is thought that serotonin could affect:

  • Mood and social behavior
  • Appetite and digestion
  • Sleep
  • Memory
  • Sexual desire and function.

The link between serotonin and depression24

It is unknown precisely what causes depression. It is thought to be likely that an imbalance of neurotransmitters or hormones in the body can lead to the disorder.
Depressed man
Serotonin levels are heavily associated with depression.
An association has been made between depression and serotonin, although scientists are unsure whether decreased levels of serotonin contribute to depression or depression causes a decrease in serotonin levels.
Although it is possible to measure the level of serotonin in the bloodstream, via a serum serotonin level test, it is currently not possible to measure serotonin levels within the brain. Researchers do not know whether serotonin levels in the bloodstream reflect the serotonin levels in the brain.
It is believed that medication such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that can affect the levels of serotonin in the body work as antidepressants and are able to relieve the symptoms of depression. It is unknown precisely how they work, however.
A recent study may offer evidence contrary to these widely-held theories. Scientists ran mice without the capacity to create serotonin through a series of behavioral tests. The mice did not show any signs of depression, suggesting that factors other than serotonin could be involved with the development of depression.12

SSRIs and serotonin levels4

SSRIs are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat depression and are the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. Common examples of SSRIs are citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline.
Normally once a neurotransmitter has transmitted its neural impulse it is generally reabsorbed. SSRIs inhibit the re-absorption of serotonin and thus serotonin levels in the body increase. It is believed that changing the balance of serotonin in the body helps brain cells send and receive messages, and in turn this boosts overall mood.
Recreational drugs such as MDMA and cocaine also inhibit the re-absorption of serotonin in order to create their highs.
SSRIs can sometimes cause side effects. They all have different chemical compositions, and so one may affect someone differently than others. Side effects may include the following:

This is it... it doesn't matter who says so.... Being kind, showering kindness... in our words, our actions, our expressions, our everything... JUST KEEP ON BEING KIND TO ALL AND EVERYTHING...

What to do on our birthday...

Our birth date is one of the most important date ever to be recorded for OURSELVES...

First and foremost is on that very date every year that we put aside to remember and repay our lovely mother who once upon a time, suffered and bore us...

All gifts, all celebrations and all credits should be given to our mother on that date instead of celebrating grandly ourselves.  Some even never realizing that even on that birthday, the food and drinks were prepared by her. Just this important reminder for all those who still have their mothers around.  Do this celebration in the memory of her, our mother.

Secondly is that our birth date very much reveals who we are as predestined.  Knowing who we are, accepting who we are and that we should live out the best of us in us, to tap all potentials inbuilt.

Thirdly, our birth date is the beginning of us.  Once a life is given, treasure it, love it, realize it that we are the sum of us in us...  Life is never a rehearsal, we come only once...

We are to be fully responsible of our total self, that includes body, mind, heart and soul.  Being at such, remember.... REMEMBER TO TAKE GREAT CARE ON ALL 4 DIMENSIONS OF SELF, let me add this POSITIVELY..

Self care is the basic beginning skill to be able to care for others too...  It is a manifestation of LOVE...  Or I should say, it is LOVE in the making... LOVE is best applied.  LOVE is best as a verb.  When LOVE overflows from our hearts, all things are reflected as love and loving... The ripple of LOVE starts from us..

That is why I have my mother with me for a week, attending to all her needs, her everything and on a vacation...  Thank you, mum... I love you..  I really love you...

Brain Inflammation: When the Fire Within is Out of Control... We have just this one brain...and our brain cells cannot die... once dead, they are gone... PUT PRIORITY TO THIS...

Brain Inflammation - When the Fire Within Is Out of Control

Contributing Writer for Wake Up World
You’ve certainly experienced the acute inflammation that occurs when an injured body part turns red, hot, and swollen. Inflammation is your body’s first line of defense against infection and injury. This process normally shuts down when the injury starts to heal.
But trouble can arise when the inflammation process gets stuck “on” and doesn’t know when to stop. This can happen when your immune system is out of balance.
Then inflammation can turn on your body, attacking healthy cells, blood vessels, and tissues instead of protecting them. This is called chronic inflammation and has been dubbed a “silent killer”.
You can develop brain inflammation, just as in any other part of your body. You won’t feel it in the same way because your brain has no nerve receptors. But that doesn’t mean it’s not there, causing hidden damage to your most vital organ.

Inflammation Can be Deadly

If you break out in an itchy rash from poison ivy, you’re very aware of the “cause and effect” of acute inflammation. But the causes and effects of chronic inflammation are not so obvious.
Chronic inflammation itself is not painful but the damage it causes can be. It can lead to all sorts of seemingly unrelated problems including allergies, IBS, high blood pressure, and arthritis (or anything that ends in “itis”).
The chart below lists the ten top causes of death. Chronic inflammation is a contributor to seven of these causes, including two neurological conditions — stroke and Alzheimer’s disease. (1)
causes of death
Chronic inflammation of the brain can lead to brain fog, ADHD, ADD, anxiety, depression, and memory loss. (2) If you are struggling with these brain issues now, consider these warning signs and get your inflammation under control now before it gets worse.

Chronic Inflammation – Symptoms & Causes

If you aren’t sure if you have inflammation, take a look at this list. If you have any of the following conditions, you have chronic inflammation:
  • Allergies
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Frequent colds
  • Chronic infections
  • Colitis
  • Dermatitis
  • Diabetes
  • Digestive issues
  • Heart disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Neuritis
  • Obesity
Chronic inflammation is largely caused by poor lifestyle habits such as eating poorly, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, stress, poor digestive health, and exposure to toxins. Anything that leads to free radical formation causes inflammation, too.

Get Your Brain Inflammation Under Control

Inflammation is not an all-or-nothing response, but a continuum. You won’t be able to get rid of all inflammation nor do you need to, but you do want to minimize its presence once it’s turning against your body. Here are the best ways to get it under control.
Diet
Vegetable oils such as canola, soy, corn, and safflower are abundant in the average modern diet. They are also loaded with omega-6 fatty acids — a main cause of inflammation. Switch to extra virgin olive oil and organic coconut oil which contain anti-inflammatory properties instead.
Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory. The best dietary sources are wild-caught salmon and grass-fed meat. Regular supermarket meat doesn’t contain healthy omega-3s. Neither does farm-raised salmon. (Beware that fish is often intentionally mislabeled so you must know your source!)
For most people, an easier way to assure they are getting the omega-3s they need is by taking an omega-3 supplement.
Green tea and red wine contain compounds that can reduce inflammation as do garlic, onions, horseradish, and virtually all spices. (3)
Neutralize Free Radical Damage
Free radicals are a byproduct of living in an oxygen-rich environment. These unpaired oxygen molecules are on the loose looking for other molecules to pair up with. In the process, they cause oxidative damage. If you’ve ever watched a sliced apple turn brown, you’ve seen this process in action. A similar process goes on inside your cells, too.
Free radicals are caused by stress, lack of sleep, grilled meat, fried food, air pollution, cigarette smoke, radiation from your cell phone and computer, and even from breathing and exercise. Moderate exercise has been shown to reduce inflammation, but strenuous exercise leads to excessive free radical formation which makes inflammation worse.
Clearly, free radicals can’t be avoided but they can be rendered harmless by antioxidants. The best dietary sources of antioxidants are plant foods.
One exception is astaxanthin, one of the most potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory nutrients known. This phytonutrient is found in algae but gets concentrated in krill making krill oil such a great source. Astaxanthin readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to more easily neutralize free radicals and halt oxidative damage to your brain cells.
Anti-Inflammation Supplements
Two of the best kinds of nutrients for reducing inflammation are omega-3s and antioxidants.
BioTrust OmegaKrill 5X offers the benefits of fish oil and krill oil plus the antioxidant properties of astaxanthin making this supplement an anti-inflammatory powerhouse.
If you are looking specifically for a brain inflammation supplement, I recommend Wellness Resource Brain Protector. Brain Protector’s unique berry-rich formula was formulated to keep your brain safe from the daily onslaught of free radical damage.
Get Tested
One way you can find out for sure if you have chronic inflammation and to what degree is to have a C-Reactive Protein (CRP) blood test done. C-reactive protein is produced by the liver and its level rises in the presence of inflammation.
You can ask your doctor to order this test or you can order it yourself from True Health Labs for around $50. Using an online lab is a great way to save money — up to 80% — and gives you privacy and control over your health.
Knowing your levels is useful to monitor your progress and see how much your lifestyle changes are helping.
