When we are committed to a belief about the world, it acts as a wall that keeps us from experiencing anything beyond it. Our universe is filled with infinte possibility, but it is our ego that establishes the rules of our reality. These rules are shaped by the beliefs that are instilled in us throughout childhood. Physics, biology, morality, responsibility - these are institutions passed down by those before us who did the best with the information at hand. If we are quick to ignore emerging information, we will severely limit our understanding of the universe, doomed to live in the constructs built by people who are no longer here.
