Qian Hongyan lost her legs after being hit by a truck and resorted to using the ball to help make her mobile around the streets of her village. Her family in Zhuangxia, in the Yennan Province of China, were unable to afford prosthetic limbs and came up with the ingenious idea of using a basketball to keep her moving around. Over the years she had managed to wear out six basketballs before the Beijing Rehabilitation Centre offered her a chance to get new legs in 2005.
